Bermuda triathletes Tyler Smith and Erica Hawley both came sixth in their respective races at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, today.

Hawley, 20, continued her memorable season in the women’s triathlon, finishing the 1.5-kilometre swim in 20min 31sec, the 40km bike in 1:14:47 and the 10km run in 41:13 for an overall time of 2:17:41.

Claudia Rivas, of Mexico, won the race in 2:08:38, with her team-mate Michelle Flipo coming second in 2:10:24 and Diana Castillo, of Colombia, placing third in 2:11:22.

Meanwhile Smith, 19, had splits of 18:46, 1:03:58 and 36:05 for an overall time of 1:59:57 in the men’s race.

Mexico completed a clean sweep of medals, with Rodrigo Gonzalez taking gold in 1:57:04, Cristanto Grajales coming second in 1:57:53 and Eder Mejia finishing third in 1:58:25.

Hawley, who attends the University of Colorado, finished 42nd on her ITU World Triathlon Series debut in Edmonton, Canada, last weekend in a time of 1:48:48.

Both Smith and Hawley represented Bermuda at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia, in April. Smith came 21st and Hawley placed sixteenth in their sprint-distance races.

Bermuda’s bowlers Damien Matthews, David Maycock, Lamar Richardson, Levinc Samuels and Rickai Binns are in sixth place in the Men’s Quintets. They have a grand total of 3,052 pins after three of six games.

Venezuela’s team of Leovigildo Rogriguez, Roggelio Felice, Reydnier Chavez, Ildemaro Ruiz, Luis Rovaina and Massimiliano Fridegotto are leading the event with 3,361 pins.

The final day of bowling action resumes today.
