Seeking a more humane way to cull chickens
I am concerned about whether chickens are being culled in a humane manner.
Recently I came across two of six poisoned chickens. I donít know how long it takes them to die, but one was gasping her last and the other was trying to raise her head, so I took them to my vet, who mercifully dispatched them.
The man who had this bleak task works for the Department of Conservation. He was looking for the other four bodies.
ďSometimes they survive and I have to do it again,Ē he said.
I know that chickens are considered pests in Bermuda, but there must be a more humane way to destroy them so they donít suffer so much.
Not only can they not speak; they canít even cry.
