A Bermudian freelance graphic designer is making a name for himself in the entertainment world, working with corporations such as Walt Disney and Turner Network Television.

Domico Watson, who lives in London, was introduced to fame while on his biggest project at Sarofsky, a Chicago video production company.

He helped create the title sequence for TNT’s Animal Kingdom and Marvel Studios’s Doctor Strange.

Mr Watson was part of the design and concept team that worked on the opening and ending titles on Doctor Strange.

His first major project was helping design the commercial advertising for Walt Disney World’s Avatar Pandora theme park.

“I worked with LA-based studio Lussier, to design and animate commercials,” he said.

Mr Watson also had the chance to create designs and concepts for various films and TV series, such as, The Mummy, The Dark Tower and Marvel’s Inhumans.

“I also received the opportunity for my work to be showcased on a website that features portfolios of various motion graphic designers called The Art of Styleframe.”

He believes that most people within the industry aspire to work for brands like Walt Disney and TNT.

“Coming from Bermuda, big names like these can seem unreachable because that’s what fills up our televisions and film screens. Getting the opportunity to work for these corporations came from me planning since a young age.”

Mr Watson had always envisioned himself being employed by Walt Disney and planned his steps accordingly.

“I knew companies like Disney were my dream, and I researched colleges that weren’t just a big name, but were well known in this field.”

He studied at Savannah College of Art & Design, where he enrolled in the Motions Graphics programme.

Mr Watson chose the college because past students had received the chance to intern for big corporations.

Starting his freelance career after moving to London allowed Mr Watson more flexibility and gives him opportunity to create his own schedule.

He said: “I can be working in house for a studio one day and be on my laptop at home creating work for another the next.”

Although Mr Watson feels he has a lot to learn, he is striving to become a creative director at a studio some day.

“I have an overall passion for art and film, so that will be fun to explore. Many people have a final goal of starting their own studio, which seems untouchable right now [to me], but you never know what might happen.”

And he encouraged other young Bermudians to go after what they want, even if it seems impossible.

“Entering a creative industry can be scary because it is a field that seems to not have a set path for your career. I don’t think anything in our lives is straight forward or set in stone, so it’s best to go out there and aim for stuff that seems unattainable.

“You never know what you will accomplish if you just try, no matter what field your in.”
